Ketubah Texts

I strongly recommend that you consult with your Rabbi or Officiant before choosing a text to ensure that the text is acceptable and appropriate for your ceremony.  If you prefer, I will consult with the Rabbi or Officiant  about his/her requirements and preferences for your ketubah text.

Orthodox Texts

The Orthodox text is written in Aramaic. This traditional text is, in essence, a prenuptial agreement, ensuring that the bride will be taken care of financially by the groom in the event of the dissolution of the marriage.

The Orthodox Hebrew/Aramaic text is offered two ways:

  1. Orthodox Hebrew/Aramaic-only; or
  2. Orthodox Hebrew/Aramaic with a non-literal text that confirms the love, commitment, and mutual respect between the bride and groom.

Conservative Texts

The Conservative text is the same as the Orthodox text, with the exception of the addition of a 20th Century provision called the "Lieberman Clause", which grants authority to the Rabbinical Assembly to dissolve the marriage, if the need arises.

The Conservative Hebrew/Aramaic text is offered two ways:

  1. Conservative Hebrew/Aramaic-only; or
  2. Conservative Hebrew/Aramaic with a non-literal text that confirms the love, commitment and mutual respect between the bride and the groom.

Reform Texts

Reform text options are contemporary expressions of love and commitment that include quotations from Song of Songs or from the Prophets.  The English is a translation of the Hebrew text.

Interfaith Texts

An Interfaith text stresses the individuality that each celebrant brings to a relationship and expresses the importance that different traditions will play in the lives of the couple.

Same Sex Marriage Texts

The legalization of Same Sex Marriage unions is a momentous occasion for people of all traditions.  The same sex marriage text celebrates this milestone and expresses the love, commitment and equality between the partners.

Anniversary Texts

You may choose to include both the original text of your ketubah and an anniversary text that reaffirms your commitment and continuing love for each other.
